Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed satisfaction with his team's commanding performance following Ghana’s 4-0 thrashing of Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff of the 2025 Unity Cup.
Ghana bounced back in style at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday after a narrow 2-1 semifinal loss to Nigeria. The victory secured a podium finish and served as a morale boost ahead of the return to World Cup qualifying action later this year.
Captain Jordan Ayew led from the front, opening the scoring in the 15th minute to set the tone for a dominant first half. Nations FC midfielder Razak Simpson and Union Saint-Gilloise forward Mohammed Fuseini added debut goals before the break, giving Ghana a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Lawrence Agyekum, who recently joined Belgian club Cercle Brugge on a permanent deal, capped off the win with a fine strike in the 57th minute—his first goal for the senior national team.
Speaking to the press after the match, Otto Addo praised the team’s response and emphasized the importance of identifying future prospects from such performances.
“In general, we got a lot of answers, and it’s also good to look to the future,” Addo said. “I think some of the boys used the chances. They did really well, and surely we will continue to observe them.”
He also reflected on Ghana's recent form, adding:
“For us, we played well in the last World Cup qualifiers. We will observe and see how the boys do at their clubs, and like I said, today I’m very satisfied.”
With the Unity Cup campaign now concluded, the Black Stars shift focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Ghana will travel to face Chad before hosting Mali in Matchdays 7 and 8 of the qualifiers, scheduled for September.
