AJ Auxerre defender Gideon Mensah wore the Black Stars captain’s armband for the first time in his international career when Ghana recorded a 4-0 massive win over Trinidad and Tobago in the 2025 Unity Cup.
The 26-year-old was handed the armband to lead the team after Jordan Ayew, who had scored the opener and assisted two goals was substituted by Felix Afena-Gyan in the 60th minute of the game.
Mensah assumed leadership duties at the Black Stars following the absence of several senior players, including Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Alexander Djiku, and others who were unavailable for the tournament due to various injuries and other reasons.
