Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu believes that the coaching responsibilities of the Black Stars have become too much for Otto Addo to handle.
His remarks followed the national team’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Sudan in the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The defeat leaves Ghana in a precarious position, sitting third in Group F with just two points, putting their chances of qualifying for the tournament in jeopardy.
In an interview with Accra-based Onua FM, the U-20 FIFA World Cup winner expressed regret for previously advocating for Addo’s reappointment. “I apologize because I advocated for the second coming of coach Otto Addo. If you go into my interviews, I gave him massive support, but I’m sorry. It seems the task is beyond him,” he stated.
Otto Addo was rehired in March on a 34-month contract, with an option for an additional 24 months, taking over from Chris Hughton.
As the Black Stars prepare for their final qualifying matches against Niger and Angola next month, they will need favorable outcomes in those games, while also hoping for Sudan, currently in second place with seven points, to lose their remaining matches against Angola and Niger.
