Alhaji Grusah, the owner of King Faisal FC, has called on Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to investigate the alleged mismanagement by Asante Kotoko's Interim Management Committee (IMC) during their recent friendly match against DC United.
Grusah’s remarks follow a controversial incident where two Sudanese players, Esmat Abdalhamid and AbdoelKarem Yagoub, absconded just a day before the match. Reports indicate that the players sneaked out of their hotel, as captured by CCTV footage showing them being picked up by a car.
The duo was part of a contingent of nine players and five officials who traveled to the USA on October 9, 2024, for the match. Grusah criticized the IMC for opting to send players without a full squad, highlighting that this misstep directly contributed to the unfortunate situation. He insists that the officials responsible must be held accountable to preserve the integrity of Ghanaian football.
"Otumfuo Osei Tutu II should investigate the mismanagement by Asante Kotoko's IMC during the DC United friendly. Their decision to send players without a full squad led to the unfortunate absconding of two Sudanese players. The officials must be held accountable," Grusah stated in an interview with Oyerepa FM in Kumasi.
Asante Kotoko faced visa challenges prior to their trip, resulting in several players being denied entry. Consequently, the team decided to collaborate with a Ghanaian select side in the USA to field a complete team for the match, which they won 2-1 against DC United at Audi Field.
