Former Black Stars midfielder Anthony Annan has refuted rumors of his retirement, affirming his status as an active professional footballer despite being 37 years old.
The seasoned player, who most recently featured for Arm. Lirich, remains confident in his abilities and is determined to prolong his football career.
Annan, a notable figure in Ghanaian football history from 2007 to 2013, played a crucial role in the Black Stars' success at the 2010 AFCON and their memorable World Cup quarter-final appearance. Despite accumulating 67 appearances and scoring two goals for the national team, Annan has decided to step aside to allow younger players the opportunity to shine.
“I’m still Ghanaian and I’ve played for the Black Stars before. For now, some new players deserve the chance to play. We need to support them. I wouldn’t say I’ve retired but I have to step aside for the new players to have the opportunity," he stated in an interview with Pipapipa Media on YouTube.
Clarifying the retirement rumors, Annan emphasized, “I have not retired yet. I just came to Germany, and I will see about that. If I get the chance to play again, I will. And if I feel I should retire, I will.”
