Captain of the Black Stars, Jordan Ayew has appealed to Ghanaians to be unflappable with the team as they strive towards regaining their past greatness.
Ghana is set to come up against Chad on match-day five hurdle of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, seeking to return to the top of Group I.
This conversation was Ayew’s first public address since being officially named captain of the Black Stars. His leadership will be crucial as Ghana pushes for a strong finish in their qualification campaign.
Ayew admitted that reclaiming Ghana's supremacy in international football would be a lengthy process, stressing that the team is undergoing a transitional phase.
“International football has periods, and we are in a period of transition. The head coach [Otto Addo] has also come in with different ideas, so it will take time,” Ayew stated.
Making a comparison to Manchester City’s current struggles, he pointed out the natural processes in football.
“Look at Man City and their struggles this season, for example. It is the end of an era, and it’ll take time for them to build again. I think we need patience because I’m convinced we have the players to turn things around.”
