The quick-tempered talent nurturing gaffer is worried about the possible threat to be posed by the central American minnows in their group game encounter against the west African powerhouse for the global football event later this year

Former Ghana international midfielder Laryea Kingston has intimated that Panama remains the most important opponent against the Black Stars of Ghana in group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the four-time African champions told the clash ''is the most difficult match''.

The central American nation has already been tagged as the underdogs in a group housing England, Croatia and Ghana. However, the ex-Ghana U17 manager has dispelled the notion by insisting that the Concacaf-affiliated member nation will prove as tough customers for Ghana when the tournament kicks off on June 11, 2026, in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking in an interview, the no-nonsense retired footballer has told GRAPHIC SPORTS: ''We know our opponents very well, apart from Panama. I think we are very much aware of England. A lot of people are writing off Panama, but for me, that’s the most important opponent.

He added: “We see England and Croatia over and over again, playing every week. But the Panama team are players that we are unaware of. They will be a thorn in our flesh. I know most people see them as the underdogs, but I think they will be the most difficult match.''

Ghana will kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17, then come up against England on June 23 and round off the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
