Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has moved to clarify his office’s position on national team appointments, insisting that the Ministry plays no part in the hiring or dismissal of coaches, including current Black Stars boss Otto Addo.
Speaking amid growing debate about Addo’s future, Adams underlined that such decisions lie solely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), not with the Ministry.
“The Sports Minister is not responsible for appointing coaches, but rather the Minister pays the coach,” Adams explained.
“So the conversation of appointment of coaches and as to whether he [Otto Addo] will be sacked or not is beyond me as the Sports Minister.”
He went on to note that while the Ministry is responsible for funding and logistical support for the national teams, technical appointments remain the GFA’s exclusive jurisdiction.
Adams’ comments arrive as pressure mounts following a string of inconsistent performances from the Black Stars, with some sections of the public calling for a change ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
