Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has expressed strong belief in the Black Queens’ ability to qualify for and compete at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, following the official draw for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana have been drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali and Cape Verde for the continental tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco. The Black Queens will play all their group matches in Fes.

Under the tournament format, the top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, with the four semi-finalists earning automatic qualification to the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Speaking after the draw, Mr Okraku voiced confidence in the quality of the playing squad and technical team, insisting that with the right backing, Ghana can secure a return to the global stage.

“We want to be at the World Cup, and I believe the Black Queens have the qualities to be there,” Okraku said.
“We have the right technical team to support the girls, and the government is ready to support them.”

Addressing the pressure that comes with high expectations, the GFA boss stressed the importance of mentality and leadership.

“Pressure is everywhere. What is important is how you react to situations. The head coach is very experienced to guide the girls, and I have no doubt whatsoever that we will compete and make it to the World Cup.”

With renewed confidence at the administrative and technical levels, the Black Queens will head into WAFCON 2026 determined to navigate a competitive group and take a major step towards ending Ghana’s long absence from the Women’s World Cup.
