Midfielder Michael Baidoo made his long-awaited debut for the Black Stars in Ghana’s goalless draw with Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, 2024, during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The 25-year-old, who plays for Swedish club IF Elfsborg, was brought on as a substitute in the 80th minute, replacing Atalanta’s Ibrahim Sulemana as Ghana pushed for a late winner. Despite the Black Stars' efforts to break through Sudan’s resilient defense, the game ended in a stalemate, leaving Ghana frustrated.
Baidoo’s inclusion in the squad came after four players, including captain Thomas Partey, withdrew from the initial 25-man roster due to injuries. Though his time on the pitch was limited, Baidoo showed flashes of creativity and added an attacking spark in the final minutes as Ghana pressed for a goal.
The former FK Jerv midfielder, who previously represented Ghana at the U20 level, will travel with the team to Libya for the return leg against Sudan. The Black Stars are in desperate need of their first win in the qualifiers to boost their chances of making it to the 2025 AFCON.
Ghana remains third in Group F with just two points from three matches, leaving little margin for error in their remaining games.
