Black Stars defender Mohammed Salisu has issued a cautionary note ahead of Ghana's pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali in Bamako.
Speaking candidly in an interview following the team's rigorous training session at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, Salisu underscored the formidable challenge posed by the Malian side and stressed the imperative of meticulous preparation.
"It’s evident that facing Mali won't be a walk in the park. They boast a strong lineup, and it's imperative that we approach this match with thorough preparation," Salisu conveyed to the gathered press.
Having experienced a mixed start in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, with one win and one loss in their first two encounters, the Black Stars are keenly aware of the significance of securing a victory to bolster their standings. Commencing their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Madagascar in Kumasi, they encountered a setback with a 1-0 defeat to Comoros in Moroni.
With Ghana currently positioned in 4th place in the group, there's an urgent desire to reclaim winning momentum and enhance their prospects of World Cup qualification, especially considering the tournament's forthcoming edition slated to be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The crucial face-off against Mali is scheduled for Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Stade 26 Mars in Bamako, with kick-off slated for 19:00. Following this pivotal clash, Ghana will turn their focus to a home fixture against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday, June 10, 2024.
