Ghana Football Association Head of Public Relations and Strategy, Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, has called for renewed commitment to grassroots sports development, urging regional leaders and private stakeholders to channel greater investment into identifying and nurturing young athletes.
Speaking as keynote speaker at the Volta Sports Development Forum, Armstrong-Mortagbe stressed that Ghana must treat talent as a strategic national resource capable of generating long-term economic and social value.
“Talent is not enough; it must be harnessed, nurtured, and linked to opportunity,” he said.
“When we invest in young people through sports development, skill-building, and deliberate capacity support, we’re not just preparing them for jobs. We’re preparing them for global impact.”
He singled out the Volta Region as one of the country’s most fertile areas for sports excellence, urging policymakers to build stronger pathways that turn raw ability into elite performance.
Armstrong-Mortagbe also noted that sustained sporting success can drive wider growth in sectors such as health, technology, tourism, and media which will align with Ghana’s ambition to build a dynamic 24-hour economy.
