The Chairperson of Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee, Ernest Norgbey, has labelled the dismissal of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo as long overdue, questioning why the Ghana Football Association (GFA) retained faith in him for so long despite declining team performances.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Norgbey argued that the decision to part ways with Addo should have been made much earlier.

“It is the right time for him to be sacked,” he said. “I don’t know the kind of hope the GFA had in him, looking at the performance of the team. This should have been done much earlier.”

The Ashaiman MP expressed frustration over what he sees as the GFA’s misplaced confidence in Addo amid a string of disappointing results and growing public criticism.

While acknowledging that Addo played a role in Ghana’s World Cup qualification, Norgbey insisted that achievement could not overshadow the team’s steady regression in performance and structure.

“The Black Stars had become inconsistent, often looking disjointed and lacking a clear identity, particularly in high-profile matches,” he added.

According to Norgbey, the delayed decision only prolonged the team’s struggles, suggesting that an earlier intervention might have helped stabilise the squad ahead of major competitions.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, Norgbey emphasised that Ghana must now focus on rebuilding team confidence and restoring belief among supporters, noting that the appointment of the next coach will be crucial to the Black Stars’ global prospects.
