Former Ghana Football Association vice-president George Afriyie has urged officials to take their time in appointing a new Black Stars head coach following the departure of Otto Addo.
Afriyie's comments come after the Ghana Football Association confirmed that Addo has parted ways with the senior national team.
The 50-year-old stepped down after Ghana’s back-to-back friendly defeats ahead of the World Cup, losing 5-1 to Austria in Vienna and 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart.
Despite the tournament drawing closer, Afriyie warned against making a quick decision.
“There should be no rush to appoint a new coach,” he said.
“The FA must carry out broader consultations and appoint a good coach not just for the World Cup, but also for a long-term project beyond it,” he added.
Ghana are expected to regroup in May for a friendly against Mexico, before a final warm-up match against Wales.
The Black Stars will then head to the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The tournament will mark Ghana’s fifth appearance at the global competition.
