Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has pledged that government is committed to taking provident measures to ensure that the Cape Coast and Essipong Sports Stadiums are preserved in perfect condition, with a pinpointed objective on meeting the strict standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to avoid potential sanctions.
Ankrah's comments come amid escalating concerns over the state of Ghana’s sports infrastructure, particularly following recent challenges that have been subject to close observation from both local fans and international bodies.
Ankrah revealed in an interview with Original TV that both the Cape Coast and Essipong Stadium need serious maintenance to ensure they meet global requirements.
“We have a lot of work to do. Cape Coast Stadium is not in the best shape, the grass is very bad, but we are working hard to fix it," he stated.
“Essipong has not been in use for a while, and there are several issues we need to address, including the roofing and electricity supply.
“While the roof is almost done and looks good, there’s no electricity, and the lands surrounding the stadium are being encroached upon. We need substantial investment to bring it back to life."
