Despite Andre Ayew's stellar performance for Le Havre in the French Ligue 1, the veteran forward will not feature in Ghana's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.
Coach Otto Addo, emphasizing the importance of rejuvenating the team with young talents, has opted to leave out the 34-year-old, citing a desire to focus on emerging players.
Addo shared insights into his decision, acknowledging Ayew's immense contributions to Ghanaian football while maintaining confidentiality regarding their discussion.
“I had a long talk with Andre. Personally, I visited him and gave him the reasons why he is not in the squad at the moment. I usually heard it like this don’t talk about those in the squad. For me I can say I don’t like to give information out about what we spoke about”
“At the moment, Andre is a living legend of Ghana. It’s unbelievable what he did for the country and It’s the most difficult decision because I like him as a person and also as a player. And this is a decision we took not like we totally agreed but I gave him the explanation so I don’t want to take it to another extent and say something for people to write about”
With the squad gearing up for intense matches, including a clash with Mali on June 6 followed by a duel with the Central African Republic, Addo's emphasis on strategic selection underscores the team's determination to secure crucial victories.
As the Black Stars aim to climb the ranks in Group I, where they currently sit fourth, Addo faces the challenge of steering the team to success after recent setbacks.
Despite a promising start to their campaign, Ghana seeks redemption following disappointing results in March friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda.
