Ghana coach Otto Addo has opened up about his feelings following the Black Stars' 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars aimed to bounce back after a loss to Angola and a draw with Niger. However, they were held to a goalless draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium before suffering a 2-0 defeat in the return leg in Libya.
Speaking to the Ghana FA media team, the 45-year-old revealed that the defeat deeply affected him, but he credited the support of family and friends for helping him regain his focus.
Addo acknowledged the emotional challenges he faced in the days following the match but highlighted the positive impact that feedback from loved ones had on lifting his spirits. “To be honest, I felt dead the last two days, but now I’ve received a lot of positive feedback and support from family and friends. This is the time when I need them, and I believe all the players and the entire team need it as well. This support has brought me back on track,” Addo shared.
The loss to Sudan has left Ghana in a precarious position, with just two points after four games. The Black Stars now must secure victories against Angola and Niger in their final group matches in November while hoping for Sudan to drop points in order to qualify for the tournament.
