Kojo Addae-Mensah, a key figure in the committee that appointed Otto Addo as the Black Stars' head coach, has demanded that Addo resign following Ghana's failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking on GTV Sports Plus after Ghana's 1-1 draw against Angola on Friday, November 15, Addae-Mensah expressed his disappointment with the result, stressing that the coach should step down for not securing AFCON qualification.
“For not qualifying for the AFCON, I think Otto Addo should resign. The least he could have done was to qualify us for the tournament,” Addae-Mensah said, reflecting growing frustration among fans and football stakeholders.
The draw against Angola was a devastating blow for Ghana, as it ended their hopes of securing a place in the 2025 AFCON. Despite a brilliant early goal by captain Jordan Ayew in the 19th minute, Ghana couldn't hold onto their lead, with Angola equalizing through a powerful header by Zini in the second half.
With qualification out of reach, Ghana’s final Group F match against Niger on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium has become a mere formality. The Black Stars will play for pride, with the result no longer impacting their standing in the qualifiers.
The upcoming match against Niger offers an opportunity for reflection and regrouping, but the focus will now shift to rebuilding the team after a disappointing qualification campaign.
