Black Stars defender Baba Rahman has expressed deep frustration over the state of football pitches in Ghana, revealing that national team players are often ridiculed by their club teammates upon returning from international duty.
Speaking in an interview with Joy Sports, the experienced left-back said the poor condition of playing surfaces in the country has become an international embarrassment.
“You go back to your club after international duty, and your teammates mock the country because of the pitches we play on. It’s honestly a national disgrace," Rahman said.
His comments shine a light on the reputational damage caused by Ghana’s inadequate football infrastructure, which recently came under heavy scrutiny during the 2025 MTN FA Cup final held at the University of Ghana Stadium — a venue widely criticized for its poor playing surface.
Rahman, who has plied his trade in top European leagues including Germany and England, stressed that the mockery players endure abroad is more than just light-hearted teasing — it's a reflection of how poorly Ghana’s football environment is viewed on the global stage.
He called on authorities to urgently address the issue, warning that continued neglect will further tarnish the country's image in the footballing world.
