Nations FC captain Razak Simpson praised what he described as divine help and a strong defensive promise after guiding his side to their first-ever MTN FA Cup final on Friday.
The Pride of Abrankese secured a historic 1–0 win over Aduana FC at the Swedru Sports Stadium which marked a major milestone in the club’s history.
Speaking after the bone-cracking semi-final, Simpson revealed a pre-match agreement with forward Emmanuel Annor that helped shape the outcome.
“Like he [Annor] said, God first; without Him, we cannot win this game,” Simpson said in his post-match interview.
Simpson, who was later named Man of the Match after a commanding display in defence, explained that he had urged Annor to score early while promising to lead a determined defensive effort.
“Going to this game, we really sat down and I told him he should score one goal for me and I will die at the back for the team,” he added.
That promise was tested quickly when Annor scored the decisive goal in the eighth minute.
After taking the lead, Simpson and his defence faced strong pressure from Aduana, but held firm to protect their advantage until the final whistle.
The victory sends Nations FC into the final, set for late May, where they will meet either Dreams FC or Medeama SC.
