The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly poised to announce Otto Addo's reappointment as the new manager of the Black Stars on Friday, March 15, 2024.
According to various sources in the local media, the GFA has extended a long-term contract to the German-based coach to lead Ghana's football resurgence.
The managerial vacancy emerged following the conclusion of Chris Hughton's underwhelming tenure as the head coach of Ghana on January 23, 2024. Hughton's dismissal, along with his technical team, was a result of the team's disappointing performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, where they were eliminated in the group stage while Ivory Coast claimed the title.
If confirmed, Otto Addo will step into the role previously held by Chris Hughton, whom he closely collaborated with during his initial tenure. Hughton initially served as a technical advisor before assuming the head coach position following the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Otto Addo, who commenced his coaching career in 2010, brings a wealth of experience, despite lacking an extensive managerial track record. His coaching journey includes roles as the assistant coach at Nordsjaelland and currently serving as a talent coach at Dortmund.
During his first stint as the Black Stars' manager, Otto Addo led the team in 12 matches, securing four wins, four draws, and four defeats.
Notably, over 50 coaches applied for the vacant managerial position following Chris Hughton's departure, underscoring the high level of interest in leading the national team's resurgence.
