The Ghana Football Association has finalized contract terms with newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz following negotiations that revealed a notable difference in salary expectations.
According to sources, the GFA initially proposed a monthly salary of $100,000, while Queiroz was seeking a figure closer to $200,000. Despite the gap, both parties have reached an agreement to move forward.
The financial discussions come in the context of previous talks with other candidates. Former Saudi Arabia coach Hervé Renard is reported to have demanded between $100,000 and $150,000 per month, but the GFA countered with a significantly lower offer of $50,000.
Queiroz’s contract is structured as a short-term deal, initially covering four months leading up to and including the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, the agreement includes a performance-based clause that could see his stay extended to one year if the Black Stars impress at the tournament.
The Portuguese tactician was selected from a three-man shortlist that featured Slaven Bilić and Tom Saintfiet.
With the World Cup fast approaching, the GFA has now concluded its managerial search, allowing Queiroz to shift full attention to preparing the Black Stars for the global stage.
