Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has expressed his support for Otto Addo to remain as Black Stars coach despite growing calls for his dismissal following Ghana’s struggles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The 45-year-old coach has faced intense scrutiny after the Black Stars' poor performances, which include a 2-0 defeat to Sudan and earlier setbacks in the campaign, such as a loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw against Niger. These results have left Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the tournament hanging in the balance.
In the doubleheader against Sudan, the Black Stars managed a goalless draw in Accra before suffering a shock 2-0 loss at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya. With Ghana sitting third in Group F, and only two points from four games, their qualification hopes now rely on winning their final two games while hoping Sudan drops points.
Despite mounting pressure from fans and pundits calling for Addo's dismissal, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe believes sacking the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach is not the solution. Instead, he insists that Addo needs proper guidance and support to succeed.
“I will not say Otto Addo should be dismissed because that has never been the solution. He rather needs advice,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe told Asempa FM. “He will only do well based on the instructions he is given by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).”
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe urged the GFA to continue supporting Addo, saying, "Otto Addo must not be sacked. Keep him and guide him."
Ghana will regroup next month for their final Group F games against Niger and Angola. To secure qualification for AFCON 2025, the Black Stars will need to win both matches and hope that Sudan drops points in their remaining fixtures.
