Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has set a bold benchmark for the

national team, declaring that failing to reach the quarter-finals at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will not be tolerated.

Adams’ comments come amid concerns over the Black Stars’ recent decline, including Ghana’s first AFCON qualification miss in over two decades and consecutive group-stage exits in their last two tournament campaigns.

Speaking to GhanaWeb TV, Adams stressed the importance of restoring Ghana’s reputation on the continental stage.

“Considering our name and pedigree, anything below the quarter-finals means it would have been better if we hadn’t gone. For AFCON, anything below the quarter-final stage is unacceptable,” he stated.

He added: “We must set a standard and let the players know the flag they are holding,” emphasizing that the minimum expectation must reflect the country’s rich football heritage.

With qualifiers for the 2027 tournament yet to begin, the focus is now shifting toward rebuilding a Black Stars squad capable of meeting these expectations and reversing the team’s recent struggles.
