Razak Simpson, defender for Nations FC, has shared insights into his time with the Black Stars during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, marking a significant milestone in his career.
The 26-year-old made his national team debut in matches against Angola and Niger, earning praise for his performances, particularly in the challenging away fixture against Angola.
Recounting the moment he was called up, Simpson expressed his gratitude and determination.
“I was there one day and received a foreign call. I answered, and it was Otto Addo. Then he said, ‘Congratulations, Razak Simpson. I will call you on Thursday at 12 p.m. to be a part of the Black Stars.’ After the call, I got down on my knees and thanked God for finally fulfilling my desire," he revealed in an interview with Akoma FM.
Despite the honor of donning the Black Stars jersey, Simpson admitted it came with challenges.
“When I wore the shirt, it became heavy on me. But I reminded myself that this is what I chose to do, so I had to put everything else aside and play,” he shared.
The Nations FC defender remains optimistic about the future.
“I’ll continue doing what I’ve been doing in the hopes of improving my performance for a future call-up,” Simpson added.
Unfortunately, his commendable displays couldn’t prevent Ghana from failing to qualify for the AFCON for the first time in 21 years, a disappointing end to a historic chapter in Simpson’s career.
