Former Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has commended the involvement of Ghanaian football legends Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan in the national team setup, highlighting their positive influence ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Appiah, who currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Black Stars' Management Committee, plays a key role in overseeing player relations. Although Gyan has no official position, he has been actively engaging with the squad, offering guidance and motivation during their recent matches against Chad and Madagascar.
Gyan was present at the Accra Sports Stadium as Ghana secured a commanding 5-0 victory over Chad. He also traveled with the team to Morocco, where they continued their strong form with a 3-0 win against Madagascar.
Speaking on their impact, Akonnor emphasized the value of having experienced former players involved in the team's preparations.
"The inclusion of former players, Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan, has positively impacted the team, boosting confidence with their experience and leadership," Akonnor told Asempa FM.
The Black Stars are set to regroup in June for a four-nation tournament in England before resuming their World Cup qualifying campaign in September with crucial fixtures against Chad and Mali.
