Former Black Starlets head coach, Laryea Kingston has disclosed why Kwesi Appiah will have so much advantage between the two coaches heading into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ghana and Sudan have been placed in the same group, thus Group F alongside Niger and Angola- and are set to battle it out against each other in a qualifying series for a spot at the next AFCON.

Coach Kwesi Appiah, who has previously handled the Black Stars, was named head coach of Sudan last year and has been very impressive since his arrival as he currently lead Group B ahead of Senegal with 10 points in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

After both nations were paired in the same group, the discussions in the West African country has since been who will prove superior between the two gaffers in the upcoming fixtures creating divided opinions in the media.

Giving his take on the two tactical battles coming up, Laryea, believes Kwesi will have the advantage since he knows the Ghanaian game and almost all the players very well but it's a different thing with Otto Addo on the current Sudan squad.

Also, he further noted this is a game the ex- Al Khartoum boss can use to prove himself to Ghanaians and the GFA that he's still got the ability to lead the Black Stars for the third time.

"Kwesi Appiah is a Ghanaian and he knows how we approach games. He knows a lot of positives about Ghanaians and our mindset so I think it is going to be very difficult for us. Kwesi Appiah will have an advantage as he knows us more than Otto will know the Sudanese players,” Kingston told 3Sports after watching the draw.

“If I am in Kwesi Appiah’s shoes now, it will be a game I will be looking forward to because there are so many things I will have to prove and show that I still have what it takes to lead this country. It is going to be one of the best games in Otto’s time at the Black Stars,” he added.

The group stage of the qualifiers will be played in the international windows in September, October, and November of this year. The top two teams in each group will secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
