One of Ghana's best players at their disastrous 2023 AFCON campaign undoubtedly, is Majeed Ashimeru, who has this morning released a statement to thank the teeming fans of Ghana throughout their stay in Cote D'Ivoire.

Once again, for the second consecutive time, the Black Stars suffered a group stage elimination after giving away a two-goal lead and failed to grind all three points in the game- a results which could have secured them a round of 16 spot.

The four-time champions finished third in Group B with just two points from three matches, having drawn two against Egypt and Mozambique and lost one which came against eventual group winners Cape Verde.

Majeed Ashimeru, who appeared at the biggest football competition on the continent for the first time, featured in all three matches Ghana played but couldn't enjoy full time action in any due to injuries.

His dazzling display of being able to control midfield, twist and turn and also give incisive and mirror passes caught the good eyes of Ghanaians and is gradually establishing himself as one of the mainstays in the team.

Reacting to the painful eviction, the RSC Anderlecht middleman is very elated to achieve his dream of representing the country at that stage and vowed they will patch up all cracks and return on a higher note.

"Having the previlige to represent my country of birth (Ghana) has always been a childhood dream. This gives me extra motivation to fight till the end to make sure we bring joy to our fans and also put our dear country Ghana where it belongs. Ghana black-stars deserves better and we shall rewrite our wrongs insha Allah. Thanks to all the amazing fans for their support and prayers. God bless and protect us all."

The Black Stars will regroup again on June 5, to take on Mali in their third game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
