Spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has stated they tried every means possible to maintain Nora Hauptle as they have been very impressed with her work but to no avail.
The brilliant Swiss tactician recently stepped down from her role as head coach of the Black Queens to take over a new role at their African rivals Zambia following the expiration of her contract with the GFA.
Her exit got lots of football pundits and faithfuls very disappointed in the country as she really transformed the Black Queens from different angles since taking over and was very close to making them a force to reckon with on the continent.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Henry Asante Twum confirmed they have been paying the coach and not the government and they offered her a new contract as they were very willing to continue working with her but she turned all down putting them in a corner where they could do nothing again to change her mind.
"The Ghana Football Association (GFA) met Nora Hauptle to discuss a possible extension of her contract and with the offer we presented to her, she was demanding a 100 per cent increment but we offered her 50 per cent since it was the FA who has been paying her since her appointment," Asante Twum told Asempa FM.
"We tried our best to extend her contract but she was unwilling to accept what we presented. And being a professional coach, she had the right to walk away since her contract had ended,"
Nora Hauptle was appointed in January 2023 to replace Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo who had been in charge since 2019.
The 41-year-old took over and made the Black Queens look so good having qualified them to the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations - for the first time since 2018.
