Former Ghanaian international Asamoah Gyan has lauded the talent of Black Satellites striker Jerry Afriyie, expressing confidence that the young player has the potential to ascend to stardom.
Afriyie, aged 17, played a crucial role in Desmond Ofei's squad during the 2023 African Games, where Ghana clinched the gold medal. His standout moment came in the final, where he netted a dramatic 90th-minute winner, bringing his total goals in the tournament to three in five appearances.
Gyan, acknowledging Afriyie's skills and work ethic, commended the young player's technical abilities and ball-striking prowess during an interview on Asempa FM.
"Jerry Afriyie is a very good player, Technically, he is good and he is a workaholic too. Despite a bit of inexperience in his movement off the ball, he is still very good," Gyan said on Asempa FM.
"His ball-striking ability is good as well. There's no wonder he scored three goals in the tournament. He's good technically. With good training and advice, he will go far."
Afriyie, who currently plays for Thoughts Football Club, will undoubtedly aim to build on his standout performance at the African Games and fulfill his promising potential, as endorsed by one of Ghana's football icons.
