Two teams seeking to bounce back from a draw and a defeat on the opening weekend of the new Ghana Premier League season meet at Golden City Park on Sunday afternoon as Berekum Chelsea play host to Karela United.
The Bibires secured a thrilling 3-0 victory in their last home meeting with the Pride and Passion just six months ago towards the end of last season.
Match Preview
After going through pre-season with full robust concentration over the summer, Berekum Chelsea kick-started the 2024-25 campaign with a 0-0 draw stalemate away against Vision FC in the Ghana Premier League last weekend.
Bibires gaffer Samuel Boadu felt that his side's lack of rhythm and creativity in transition was a major factor for their lack of success in the final third of the game in Tema New Town.
Chelsea will welcome Sunday’s return to Golden City Park, where they won two of their final four home matches of last season by an aggregate score of 4-3 and have also won their last two home meetings with Karela United, including a three-goal triumph in March this year.
Team News
The Bibires don't have any injury concerns as their key players will be involved on Sunday.
Awuah Dramani will be pushing to start in attack ahead of either Mezack Afriyie or Emmanuel Sarpong.
As for Karela, Giyasu Ibrahim will be leading the pack as skipper for the Passioners once again ahead of kickoff.
Berekum Chelsea possible starting lineup: Sekyere; Oppong, Sarpong, Seidu, Acheampong, Ameyaw, Asamoah, Mwankurinah; Fuseini, Mazack, Awatsonya
Karela United possible starting lineup: Ganiu; Basit, Abubakar, Aidoo, Ankrah, Farouk, Ganiu, Gariba, Ibrahim, Yaya, Latif.
We say: Berekum Chelsea 2-2
Berekum Chelsea Goals are to be expected in Sunday's intriguing fixture; 21 goals has been produced in both teams last 10 meetings (7 for Chelsea and 14 for Karela).
The Bibires have prevailed in their last two home matches with the Pride and Passion, but we expect a response from Jimmy Cobblah’s men and they may do enough to claim at least a share of the spoils from an entertaining contest.
