Aduana Stars earned a crucial three points in a match-day 15 clash in the ongoing Ghana Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Legon Cities at University of Ghana Stadium on Thursday afternoon, thanks to a stunning first-half goal from forward Abdel Latif Bamba.
Neither side managed to assert their dominance in a rather uninspiring opening half, although Cities did enjoy marginally more success in the final third with a flurry of chances around the 30th minute that could have seen them take the lead, but it was Aduana Stars who finally broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute as Bamba capped a swift pass with a step-over to delightfully dunking the ball into the left corner.
However, a lack of quality in the last moments ensured the game went into the break 1-0 against the hosts.
The tempo was clearly increased by both sides from the restart. Legon Cities attempted to push up the pitch in search of an equaliser in the following minutes, but that left gaps behind their defence, allowing Aduana to exploit them on the counter on numerous occasions, resulting in the visitors looking the more likely team to add to the scoring as the game progressed.
The Royals pressed for an elusive equalizer as the game neared its end, but Aduana Stars held firm as the final whistle eventually went to ensure assistant coach - W.O Tandoh’s men took home all three points.
W. O Tandoh was shown a red card by the center referee Moro for an incident he deemed unacceptable in the 45+1’ minutes.
Aduana have moved to 11th place in the standings with 17 points, while Legon Cities are still lurking on the foot of the table with just 11 points.
