The Ghana Premier League clash between Basake Holy Stars and Bechem United took an unexpected turn on Thursday, as Bechem United failed to show up at the Ampain Sports Arena for the scheduled match.
The troubles for Bechem began the day before the game when their team bus broke down, stranding the players and officials. Despite multiple attempts to repair the vehicle, none were successful, leaving the team in a dire situation.
Compounding the issue, the festive season made it difficult for Bechem to secure alternative transportation, as the usual buses were unavailable.
Fully aware of the gravity of the situation, Bechem United promptly informed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of the issue. In an attempt to demonstrate their sincerity, the team submitted receipts for their hotel reservations, reaffirming their readiness to play under normal circumstances and appealing for a postponement.
However, the GFA remained firm in its stance, insisting that the match must proceed as scheduled.
Both Basake Holy Stars and the match officials, adhering to the regulations, arrived at the Ampain Sports Arena, waiting for Bechem United’s arrival. When the Hunters failed to appear, the GFA confirmed the forfeit, awarding Basake Holy Stars three points and a 3-0 victory in line with the league's rules.
