Faisal Charwetey scored a 75th-minute goal to hand Nations FC an unlikely three points against Karela United in Sunday’s Ghana Premier League contest at Aliu Mahama Stadium.
Karela, as expected, were the dominant outfit in the early stages, with the Passioners missing the target in the home side's first-half chances of the contest.
The hosts thought that they had taken the lead in the 5th minute, with Giyasu Ibrahim getting the first opportunity of the match but he could not direct his shot on goal as the Nations FC defense cleared their line.
Karela’s only real opportunity of the first period came for Giyasu Ibrahim in the 15th minute, with the dazzlers' strike failing to enter into the net as there was no power behind his shot, and the two sides were level at the half-time interval.
Nations FC were also on top at the start of the second half, with their attackers threatening the goal of their hosts on several occasions.
Charwetey, currently boasting of five goals in the campaign also snatched an opportunity to make the breakthrough, firing home in the 75th minute, as Karela continued to come under pressure at their own backyard.
The Abrankese side’s breakthrough finally came in the 75th minute, which later turned out to be the winner. The hosts' mentality of pulling in a dramatic share of the spoils did not materialize as their efforts were gripped like a desert donkey trying to flee on the desert of Agadez.
The result has left Kassim Mingle’s side in second spot in the Ghana Premier League table, boasting 16 points from their first nine games of the season, while Karela have flown downwards into 12th, now on 9 points from their first nine matches of 2024-25.
