Medeama avoided a humiliating draw to Premier League strugglers Basake Holy Stars on Tuesday afternoon thanks to a late goal from super-sub' Derrick Fordjour.

The 13th-placed visitors held on to a deserved first twenty-eight minute lead after Issah Yakubu gave Holy Stars the lead in the 28th minute mark until Kamaradini Mamudu fired the leveller on the stroke of halftime before Fordjour embarked upon his late burst of goal in the 89th minute.

However, the underwhelming display at the TnA Stadium which preceded the forward's dramatic intervention will have been a grave concern for Ibrahim Tanko.

Despite his side's uninspiring record against the Yellow and Mauves in the two matches they've faced each other - in Premier League history - Holy Stars boss Abdulai Gazale had a hopeful glint in his eye ahead of the trip to Tarkwa in the muchancipated Western Regional derby.

Holy Stars came into Tuesday's contest with 25 league goals under their sleeves - a tally seven individual players can better this season - but looked like scoring each time they ventured forward.

Staring down the barrel of one of the club's most embarrassing defeats in Ghana football history, Tanko was in desperate need of goals: enter... Kamaradini, Prosper Boakye and Fordjour.

Even after the introduction of a forward waiting for his fourth league goal this season, and one further change, Holy Stars remained firmly on the back foot. Fordjour continued to have his way with increasingly penetrative darts which proved to be worthwhile.

Fordjour rounded off the contest by pouncing the ball home in just a minute to stoppage time. It may have been a night to remember for Fordjour, but it was one that Tanko may want to forget.

Medeama have now climbed to the 4th position with 28 points, while Holy Stars are lurking in the 13th spot on 27 points.
