Under-fire Medeama are searching for respite when they host Legon Cities in matchday 19 fixture of the the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Playing in the prime 15:00 GMT kick-off slot, the Yellow and Mauves are looking for redemption following last weekend's miserable away defeat at Accra Lions. A dismal defensive display gifted the Yenn Nyinaa Dea victory and saw pressure increase on interim gaffer Evans Adotey who has moved back to his original position as a technical director as Medeama slumped to 7th.
Match Preview
Last Sunday afternoon proved another slog for the 16th-placed Premier League cellar dwellers as they needed a 53rd-minute winner from forward Frederick Akatuk to beat Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0 in the matchday 18 clash, and they may be relieved to be playing away from the justifiably critical University of Ghana Stadium faithful this weekend.
Cities will prove no pushovers, although currently sit seventeen points beneath Medeama in the Premier League table having suffered six defeats in their previous ten matches in the competition. Having said that, they have only won just four of those battles, including their recent matchup against struggling Dreams FC.
Medeama possible starting lineup (3-4-2-1):
Kyei (GK) (C), Abdulai, Amoah, Azaria, Babil, Bashiru, Fordjour, Mamudu, Owusu, Sarpong, Yussif.
Legon Cities possible starting lineup (4-2-3-1):
Honu (GK), Akatuk, Akoto (C), Alidu, J. Amoah, Asamoah, Gyesi, Opoku Nti, Quartey, Suraje, Yeboah
We say: Medeama 2-2 Legon Cities
Medeama have won fourteen against Legon Cities, formally Wa All Stars in their 31 meetings since March 2008 - that coming at WAFA Park last season - and going ahead to beat them in both fixtures. However, Cities have an excellent opportunity to change that on Sunday against an out-of-sorts and inconsistent side who have appointed a new head coach in the person of Ibrahim Tanko.
They are likely to cause an injury-hit and generally disorganised Medeama defence issues and they have scored four goals in their last two matches in the top flight.
Medeama's unpredictability makes it difficult to know what we will witness from Tanko's side but they have been scoring goals in recent matches despite their poor form. Fordjour and Kamaradini could well be their saviours this weekend.
