Asante Kotoko fell to a 2-1 defeat against FC Samartex in their Ghana Premier League match-week 28 encounter, which resumed just this morning after it was rained off last Monday evening at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The match was initially abandoned on Monday evening due to a heavy downpour, with referee Nathan Anafo halting proceedings early in just seven minutes into the second half after deeming the pitch unplayable due to waterlogging.

Before the stoppage, the first half had ended goalless, although Samartex came close on a couple of occasions, forcing Kotoko goalkeeper Aziz Haruna Dari into two crucial saves to deny Abdul Latif and Christian Agyenim Boateng, with the matter’s effort striking the crossbar.

When the game resumed on Tuesday morning, the visitors made their dominance count, with Agyenim Boateng breaking the deadlock in the 55th minute with a towering close range header.

The Timber Giants doubled their lead later on when Emmanuel Mamah tapped home from a Gabriel Osei cross in the 83rd minute to put the visitors firmly in control.

Kotoko were handed a lifeline in stoppage time but captain Samba O’Neil failed to convert from the penalty spot in the 91st minute. However, Albert Amoah managed to pull one back a minute later, but wasn’t enough

The result see Kotoko extend their winless run to two matches, remaining fourth on the table with 43 points.

FC Samartex, meanwhile, return to winning ways after a seven-game winless streak and move up to sixth place with 41 points.
