Interim head coach of Asante Kotoko SC, Prince Yaw Owusu, has conceded that the club’s Ghana Premier League title ambitions are slipping away following a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to FC Samartex 1996.

Speaking in a subdued post-match press conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Owusu admitted the team’s current position makes a late title push increasingly unlikely.

“It looks like that,” he said when asked about their chances. “This is football, anything can happen, but when you look at the points and where we are now, it doesn’t look good.”

Kotoko’s setback saw Samartex punish defensive lapses, with goals from Christian Agyenim Boateng and Emmanuel Essien sealing victory for the visitors.

The result leaves the Porcupine Warriors eight points behind league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars FC, with just six matches left to play, significantly denting their title aspirations.

Owusu’s latest remarks represent a shift from his earlier optimism in March, when he maintained the title race was still within reach. However, a dip in form and concerns over tactical discipline have seen Kotoko drop to fourth place on 43 points.

Attention now turns to a crucial away fixture against Medeama SC on April 12, a match that could further define the outcome of their season and increase scrutiny on Owusu’s interim spell in charge.
