Head coach of FC Samartex 1996, Christopher Ennin, says he always enjoys facing Asante Kotoko at their favoured home ground, the Baba Yara Stadium, after guiding his side to a crucial victory on matchday 28 of the Ghana Premier League.

The Timber Giants ended their seven-game winless run in the league with a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Porcupine Warriors on Tuesday.

The fixture had earlier been abandoned due to heavy rainfall with the scoreline at 0-0, but upon resumption, Samartex took full control of proceedings.

Goals from Christian Agyenim Boateng and Emmanuel Essien proved decisive as the visitors secured all three points, while Kotoko managed only a late consolation through Albert Amoah.

Speaking after the match, Ennin expressed his confidence and familiarity with playing Kotoko in Kumasi, insisting his side executed their tactical plan effectively.

“I always enjoy playing against Kotoko in Kumasi. I remember beating them when they were down to ten men during my days with Berekum Chelsea,” he said.

“I know how to frustrate Kotoko and make them play to our rhythm. We forced them to adapt to our strengths, and it led to the goal. I’ve studied the team closely — for me, it’s all about tactical discipline,” he added at the post-match conference.

The victory lifts Samartex into sixth place, strengthening their push for a top-four finish as the season enters its final stretch.

The result also impacts the league standings, with Kotoko remaining fourth on 43 points after 28 matches, missing the chance to close the gap on leaders Bibiani Gold Stars. Medeama SC and Accra Hearts of Oak continue to occupy second and third place respectively.
