Medeama SC’s Ghana Premier League title ambitions suffered a significant blow after they were beaten 2–1 by relegation-threatened Hohoe United in a dramatic clash at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Sunday.

The result ended Medeama’s impressive unbeaten home run in the 2025–26 league season and dealt a major setback to their push for the title.

The first half was closely contested, with both sides battling for control but failing to find the breakthrough before the interval.

However, Medeama started the second half brightly and took the lead just two minutes after the restart when Kelvin Obeng finished off a well-worked move to put Ibrahim Tanko’s men in front.

Hohoe United responded almost immediately to cancel out the advantage. In the 53rd minute, Medeama defender Fatawu Sulemana inadvertently turned the ball into his own net while attempting to clear, handing the visitors a vital equaliser.

The hosts had a chance to restore their lead moments later when they were awarded a penalty. In a surprising move, goalkeeper Felix Kyei stepped up to take the spot kick but failed to convert, marking Medeama’s second missed penalty in the last three weeks.

The penalty miss proved costly for the home side as Hohoe United seized the momentum in the closing stages.

A moment of hesitation from Kyei, who had strayed off his line, allowed the visitors to calmly finish into an empty net to complete a remarkable comeback and silence the home crowd in Tarkwa.

The victory handed Hohoe United a memorable away triumph while leaving Medeama to reflect on a costly defeat that could have major implications for their title challenge.
