Asante Kotoko extended their blistering run in the league with a resounding 6–0 Matchweek 16 victory over 17th-placed Bechem United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday late afternoon.

A brace from Guinean striker Morifing Donzo, alongside goals from defender Samba O’Neil, midfielder Hubert Gyau, winger Johnson Owusu, and forward Kwame Opoku, sealed an emphatic win for the Porcupine Warriors, who turned on the style in front of their home supporters.

Kotoko stamped their authority from the opening whistle, dominating possession as they sought an early breakthrough. Their intensity was rewarded in the 8th minute when Donzo pounced inside the box to guide home the opener after sustained attacking pressure.

The hosts continued to dictate proceedings with swift buildup play and purposeful movement in the box, and they doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute through Samba O’Neil, who reacted quickest to finish from close range.

Kotoko’s energy only grew stronger as Donzo grabbed his second of the afternoon in the 38th minute, calmly converting to put his side firmly in control heading into the break.

After the restart, Karim Zito’s men showed no signs of easing off, and midfielder Hubert Gyau capped off a flowing team move to make it 4–0. The introduction of fresh legs added further spark, as substitute Johnson Owusu swept home the fifth before fellow substitute Kwame Opoku wrapped up the scoring late on to complete a statement performance.

Bechem United pushed forward in the closing stages in search of a consolation, but Kotoko’s defence remained disciplined to preserve a clean sheet and secure their third straight league victory.

The result lifts Asante Kotoko to 1st position on the league table with 30 points after 16 matches as they underlined their title credentials at the mid-stage of the season.

Meanwhile, Coach Kobina Amissah’s Bechem United have now recorded four wins, four draws and eight defeats from their opening 16 fixtures. The Hunters slip from 15th to 17th place with 16 points in the 18-club standings as their difficult run of form continues.
