With Nations FC, Kpando Heart of Lions and Bofoakwa Tano all preparing to compete against Ghana’s elite, the three promoted clubs will need to make a statement and strengthen in the transfer market if they are to survive in the Premier League, where money and squad depth matters.
In particular a clinical striker, capable of performing on a regular basis, can be the difference between comfortable survival and a harrowing relegation dog fight.
At Nations FC, Asamoah B. Afriyie may need the burden to be lifted off his shoulders, with the Abrankese outfit relying heavily on the striker for goals last season.
While prolific in the Division One, Afriyie will come against experienced and tougher defenders in the premier league. Bofoakwa Tano and Kpando Heart of Lions too lack proven quality at the highest level and would benefit from reinforcements.
Here are three forwards who could make all the difference.
Sampson Eduku (Tamale City)
Sampson Eduku has been linked with a move away this summer.
His ability in front of goal and non-stop work ethic couldn't stop Tamale City being relegated in the 2022/23 season, but he did score an impressive 11 goals in 27 games and registered 3 assists. He holds the ball up well, is lethal in the air and would be a huge asset for a promoted club.
Tamale City won't sell him for cheap, but as this summer has already showed, in more cases than not, you have to spend big to land your top targets.
Issah Kuka (RTU)
The 21-year-old forward impressed in the jus ended season, scoring a respectable 11 goals for the Tamale club.
The Accra-born striker is strong, quick and has proved to be deadly in front of goal. There are already hushed talks of him returning to his parent club Accra Hearts of Oak since his loan spell with RTU has ended.
With attacking additions imminent at Hearts, he would likely find opportunities limited. Another loan move to any of the newly-promoted clubs will benefit the player and Hearts in the long term.
Samuel Ofori (Nsoatreman)
Samuel Ofori played an integral role in Nsoatreman gain promotion into the Ghanaian topflight. He scored an impressive 11 goals for the league debutants in the Premier League in 2022/23, playing a big part in Nsoatreman’s late survival charge.
A player who poses a real threat to defenders, the big man is quick, works hard and doesn't need a second invitation in front of goal. The 27-year-old brings his teammates into the game with good hold up play and scores a lot of goals with his head.
Ofori is a proven scorer who offers plenty of energy and has the ability to get away from defenders with his close control and skill.
