Asante Kotoko defender Lord Amoah has called on the club’s supporters to rally behind the team as they prepare for a crucial Ghana Premier League showdown against rivals Hearts of Oak, insisting their presence could inspire a turnaround in form.
The right-back believes strong fan backing at the Baba Yara Stadium will be key to securing victory in Sunday’s high-stakes Matchday 22 fixture, which could shape the direction of Kotoko’s title challenge.
Amoah admitted the Porcupine Warriors have endured a difficult spell in recent weeks, including their disappointing exit from the MTN FA Cup, and offered an apology to supporters for the team’s performances.
“We are disappointed with our recent poor performance, including our MTN FA Cup exit. We are sorry for that,” he told Pure FM.
Despite trailing league leaders Medeama SC by eight points, the defender remains confident Kotoko can stage a late surge and emerge champions at the end of the season. He expressed strong belief in the squad’s ability to win every remaining league match, starting with the clash against their fiercest rivals.
“I can confidently say that we will win the rest of the games, starting from the Hearts of Oak game this Sunday. I promise we are winning the Ghana Premier League despite Medeama leading us by eight points,” Amoah said.
The defender emphasised that the players are determined to respond positively and need the energy of the supporters to drive them forward in what is expected to be an intense contest.
“All we need is the presence of our supporters,” he added.
Kotoko’s meeting with Hearts of Oak is expected to be a decisive encounter, not only for pride in Ghana’s biggest club rivalry but also for the Porcupine Warriors’ hopes of closing the gap at the top of the table and keeping their title ambitions alive.
