Asante Kotoko are preparing to make the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi their new home venue for the 2024/25 season following the temporary closure of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for renovations.
The National Sports Authority (NSA) recently announced the one-month closure of the Baba Yara Stadium, citing the need for extensive repairs.
The decision was prompted by mounting criticism of the pitch's condition, which many believe contributed to Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Angola during the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The defeat not only ended the Black Stars' 24-year unbeaten streak at the stadium but also intensified scrutiny over the playing surface.
In light of these developments, Asante Kotoko are exploring the option to relocate to the Len Clay Stadium for the upcoming season. The potential move would impact the club’s home fixtures, as they originally planned to host Nsoatreman FC and Young Apostles in back-to-back home matches on matchdays 2 and 3 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.
The club has already entered advanced talks with Anglogold Ashanti, the custodians of the Len Clay Stadium. Inspections of the facilities have been carried out, and the final approval now rests with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) before the switch can be made official.
Asante Kotoko’s move to the Len Clay Stadium, though temporary, could provide the club with a reliable venue while the Baba Yara Stadium undergoes its much-needed upgrades.
