Interim Asante Kotoko head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has attributed his side’s Ghana Premier League defeat to Hearts of Oak to a costly goalkeeping error.
Owusu, who stepped into the role just a week after the club parted ways with former head coach Abdul Karim Zito, oversaw the high-profile Super Clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Despite a spirited performance, Kotoko fell to a narrow defeat.
The defining moment came in the 15th minute when Baba Adamu headed home after goalkeeper Mohamed Camara was caught off his line. The goal ultimately separated the two sides in a tightly contested encounter.
In his post-match remarks, Owusu praised his players’ effort and determination but maintained that the error between the posts proved decisive.
“I think the boys did their best. They kept fighting until the end. It’s just the mistake from the goalkeeper that cost us,” he said.
The interim coach also acknowledged the impact of the defeat on Kotoko’s ambitions.
“This loss makes our title chase very difficult. Now we have to fight very hard if we want to win the league.”
The setback leaves Kotoko fifth in the Ghana Premier League table with 35 points, now nine behind leaders Medeama SC. With the title race tightening, the Porcupine Warriors face an uphill battle to close the gap in the remaining fixtures.
