Former Ghanaian international midfielder, Laryea Kingston, has emphasized the importance of hiring the right technical personnel and competent management for Ghana's top two clubs, Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
According to Laryea, the lack of proper management and a strategic game plan has contributed to their poor performance.
Both Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have historically been destinations for top-quality players in Africa, but their current situations are quite different. The two clubs have struggled in the ongoing season and are finding it challenging to secure their positions in the top four of the BetPawa Premier League.
In an interview, the former Accra Hearts of Oak player highlighted the necessity for both teams to have a well-defined plan in order to succeed. Laryea stressed the importance of hiring the right technical staff and a knowledgeable management team that understands the intricacies of the game.
"Hearts and Asante Kotoko are the two biggest teams in the country. They should strive to do things correctly, hire competent technical personnel, and employ bright management individuals who have a deep understanding of the game. They should also develop a game plan that allows them to build a team capable of dominating Ghana and Africa within the next two to three years. Having a plan is crucial. Currently, I don't believe both teams have a clear plan. You can't just wake up and declare that you're going to win the league without a proper plan and without considering the process of building something," Laryea stated during an interview with Original FM.
He further expressed his observation that both teams have failed to establish a solid foundation in the past five years. Every season, players come and go with the hope of achieving something significant, but without a well-thought-out plan, success remains elusive. Laryea believes that both clubs should have a long-term plan spanning four to five years to create a stable foundation in Ghana and ultimately compete in African competitions.
“I can tell you that both teams have not built anything for the past five years. Every season players will go, players will come thinking you will be able to do something, no. They should be able to have a plan for four or five years to be comfortable to play in Ghana and then Africa,” he added.
In summary, Laryea Kingston emphasizes the need for Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko to prioritize hiring competent technical staff, knowledgeable management, and developing a clear long-term plan to build successful and sustainable teams in both domestic and continental competitions.
