Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito insisted his side were fully deserving of their opening-day victory over Berekum Chelsea, describing the 1-0 result as “football doing justice” after a dominant display.

Albert Amoah’s 80th-minute strike proved decisive at the Golden City Park, sealing three points in Kotoko’s 2025-2026 Ghana Premier League season opener.

Zito, however, admitted that fatigue was a factor after a punishing pre-season schedule which saw the Porcupine Warriors feature in four separate tournaments.

“At the end of the day, after a hard-fought win, football has done justice to Kotoko,” Zito said.

“When you look at the way we created a lot of chances, if we had ended this game without a win it wouldn’t have been fair. So I’m very happy for my boys, and this will also ginger us towards this week’s Confederation Cup.”

Kotoko’s attention now turns to continental duty, with a trip to face Nigeria’s Kwara United on Sunday, September 21 in the CAF Confederation Cup.
