Former Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC striker Francis Andy Kumi has finally cleared his name following a prolonged and highly publicized paternity dispute that gripped social media and played out in the courtroom.
The Young Apostles forward, who has also played for Bechem United FC, Kotoku Royals, and Serbian side FK Radnički Niš, became embroiled in a legal battle over the paternity of a 10-year-old girl after his former girlfriend, Sekina Hammond, publicly questioned whether he was the child’s biological father.
The dispute began on October 7, 2025, when the Ashaiman District Court ordered Sekina to produce the child for a DNA test. In a controversial move, she initially sent the child to her mother’s village, delaying proceedings. Weeks of legal wrangling and intense public scrutiny followed before the DNA test was eventually conducted.
After three hearings, the court delivered a definitive verdict on January 20, 2026: Kumi is not the biological father. The ruling not only vindicated the striker but also condemned Sekina’s actions as unacceptable, ordering her to pay GH¢24,200 in damages for the harm caused.
Sources close to Kumi revealed that he and Sekina dated in senior high school, maintaining their relationship after graduation, making the legal ordeal an emotionally charged chapter in his life.
With the legal cloud lifted, Kumi can now fully focus on his football career. After returning from Serbia, he joined Medeama SC ahead of the 2024/25 season, continuing a domestic journey that earned him a call-up to the Ghana national team in 2021.
