Premier League football is finally back. We saw every team play across an exciting weekend of action, and there really was plenty to talk about.
Some teams looked great, others... not so much. Either way, it will have certainly been an eye-opener for managers across the country.
Here are seven things we learned from matchday 5.
Nsoatreman FC Aren't Messing About
Coming into this season, Nsoatreman FC were supposed to be the lovable underdogs who were sent straight back down to the Division One League. To Mohammed Gargo's credit, that's not how things have worked out.
Gargo's side have been nothing short of astounding in their maiden campaign, and their fantastic 2-0 win over Karela FC was a signal of their intent. They are here to pick up points, and it doesn't matter who gets in their way.
They capitalised on Karela's poor performance to storm to a 2-0 lead in a game they showed their resilience and determination. They're now sixth in the Premier League table, and nobody saw that coming.
Accra Lions Won't Go Down Without A Fight
If you asked supporters to name the three sides that they thought would be relegated this season, it is likely that Accra Lions would have probably featured on most people's list. The first four games have shown that they are not out of their depth though. Not by a long shot.
Their display against Dreams FC saw their grit and quality combine to earn them a vital away win which is what Ibrahim Tanko will want, and that is why it is far too early to write off Accra Lions in their bid to extend their stay in the top-flight beyond a solitary season.
David Duncan Is in Real Trouble
Anyone within earshot of the T&A park will be able to tell you that David Duncan is in trouble. As his Medeama side fell 1-0 down against Aduana Stars, fans began venting their frustrations towards Duncan, and it didn't make for pretty listening.
Most seem to want him gone and, as we have seen from Medeama in the past, they're not scared to pull the trigger. Rarely does a manager survive such a public outcry of disgust, and the situation will only worsen if they fail to win their next games.
Hearts of Oak Are Somehow Finding A Way
We're still not sure if Hearts are that good this term. They certainly haven't wholly impressed us in a game for a while, but they make up for that relative lack of quality with something far more important: belief.
Bibiani Goldstars were the better team at the Accra Sports stadium last Saturday, but going into the final seconds, there was only one team who truly believed they could nick all three points. Having said that, the Phobians still have some way to go to matching the confidence levels of their supporters. Title challengers they certainly are. Title favourites? Certainly not. Well, time will tell.
King Faisal's problems more mentality than talent
Take almost any player out of this King Faisal side and present a Premier League manager the chance to find a starting use for them in their system.
More often than not, the manager is going to leap at the chance to sign a Baba Yahaya, a Samuel Kusi, a David Oppong Afranie, a Perry Addison Rockson. But all of these players appear less than themselves in a King Faisal shirt right now, and have under multiple managers.
That sure seems to point to the club, doesn’t it? There’s something going wrong between the ears. Some have claimed there are too many cliques at the club.
The Insha Allah boy have lost four times on a bounce and find themselves languishing at the bottom of the table much to the chagrin of their fans. Something must be done and it must be as soon as possible before the situation escalates.
