Former Hearts of Oak striker, Kofi Kordzi, has lamented that Ghana Premier League (GPL) players are suffering due to their low salaries.

He believes that players are willing to transfer to the most remote leagues for better salaries because the salaries in the local league are very low.

Reports have indicated that some players in the GPL earn as little as GH₵300 per month, which highlights the financial challenges faced by many athletes in the league. This figure is particularly concerning given that these players are considered professionals in their field.

In an interview aired on Asempa FM, Kordzi stated that "The Ghana Premier League players as a whole are suffering. All of it is about the low wages." He emphasized that this is the reason why many players are willing to leave the league for better paying opportunities in other countries.

Kordzi noted that even some players who earn salaries from their clubs do not receive timely payments, making it difficult for them to cater for their families. He therefore called on the government to intervene and put in place measures to address the financial struggles faced by GPL players.

"We need some measures to be put in place so that the government can help. That's why when some players play in the league small they prefer to go to Togo for better wages to cater for their families," he said.
